Soilduck?

Soil = for my love of the brown stuff. Duck = my last name translates to 'male duck'.

I am a PhD nerd by day. And by night I am a pantry chef and blogger. I have a passion for Open Science and Review, the Environment and Science Communication.

Apart from having interests in cooking, brewing, hiking, swimming, environment and soil, I do love some good research. My background (and loves) are in landscape rehabilitation and restoration, functional ecosystems, erosion and land management. New loves include fungi, soil biology, soil chemistry, chemical analysis of soil, highly altered soils, saline/sodic soils, amendments/ameliorants, the soil balancing-act and soil-fire effects. I am always willing to look at any of these topics, and keen to learn more!

I am also an advocate for improving science communication and education. I teach students at both the Undergraduate and Honours levels at The Fenner School and the Canberra Institute of Technology.

Always happy to meet new people and answer questions. You can contact me via email:

or leave me a comment!

Happy digging :D
